Carrots!

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Today, Saturday, January 30th, I decided to introduce Noah to his first solid food: carrots. At our last visit to the doctor, he suggested we might want to start around 6 months, but to watch his cues and signs and go from there. One of the signs is waking up in the night when normally he sleeps through it. That’s been happening all week. He is also VERY interested in me eating, the dinner table and his spoon (when I feed him his medicine). He is also been on the crabby side all week, which made me think he was hungrier than usual. We gave him the carrots this evening and he enjoyed it! As I would spoon the carrots towards his mouth he totally knew what I was doing and what was coming. He ate like a champ, right away!

He is passed out in his crib now, after I breast feed him - eating is exhausting!

Update: We are back to just breast feeding. Noah loved the food but the pediatrician told us to wait until he is 6 month old. Breast milk is still enough for him so I am fine with it. Poor peanut also got constipated. I was reading later that (The Baby Book by William Sears, M.D. and Martha Sears, R.N.) many infants become constipated when solid foods are introduced. Many started foods like cooked carrots, also bananas and rice cereal cause constipation when first introduced. Back to breast milk it is now and we are happy! Next try when he is 6 month old...
